No rain today as the forecast said.. :-)
Sydney - Manly and thoughts about asian service

No rain today eather, so we headed for Manly beach dispite of the clouds.
Remember our saying is if it´s not raining, just head for the beaches :-)
You could see that it´s now working time for the aussies, end of holiday, all of a sudden they are dressed up in costumes and walks faster towards their working place.
We took a train down to Cirqular Quay down in the harbour where all the ferries departure from. It took just 30 minutes out to Manly, but now it was overcast.
So there where Manly beach, very cloudy and very windy.
But we where lucky to see the Australian championship for junior lifeguards, they compeeted in different disciplines, like sprint ( runt short and fast) on the beach, surf board ( they lie on the board paddling with their arms) paddling in a little canoe ( that one was great to see, sometime they didnt get anywhere at all, and a lot of canoes turning upside down.)
We could see that it was very strengious to overcome this adventure.

Due to heavy winds the whole beach where closed, so we took a walk and got lunch.

After a short rain, the sun was beginning to show so we went down to the end of the beach.

The Manly beach is approx 2 km so there was space for everyone. We went running on the beach, barefoot, its wonderful, then we took a swim in a pool.

We then walked the Sydney harbour national park ( North shore), there where fabuluos views and we did see some animals wild. The Enchidna was cute. And we saw and heard a lot of different birds.

On the way back to Manly harbour we fount our own beach, Colin, and we took a swim.

On the ferry back to Sydney it was a great opportunity to take a lot of nice photos of the skyline.
Here are some of them.
In the evening we where tired so we just wanted fast food.
We went to a chinese restaurant to eat noodles and prawns.
We get to wonder, does chinese restaurants never give service? Or is it just in Sydney.
They just put plates on your table not saying anything, then we have to work our ass of to get their attention to be able to pay. Is that why it is cheaper?

Sydney - Bondi beach

semi-overcast 25 °C

It turned out to be a nice day though the weather forecast said it was gonna rain all week, so we understood that it´s
best to head to some of the beaches.
We bought My ticket 1 for 43 dollars, that lets us go on all community trains, ferrys and buses in the town except for monorail for one week.
We had to go by train and then the bus.

Bondi was a fine beach like Henke remembered, the sand is just wonderful.
A lot of surfers, great waves, but it´s really to crowded in the water. Well, on the beach as well of course.

We went out on the cliffs for more scenic views and even greater waves hitting the cliffs.

At the other end of Bondi beach there was a nice scenic walkway so we strolled away over to Bronte beach via Tamarama.

From Bronte we took the bus home to Central station that is next to our hotel.

Due to the 50 + sun block you could not even see Maria been in the sun.. maybe dont need to use the whole bottle at once ;-)

Heading to Australia!!

semi-overcast 25 °C

Early wake up call at 3.45 am to catch the 6.35 plane to Sydney.
After a quick shower it was doable ;-)

It felt good to travel back in time, we "earned" 2 hours, felt good to be in Sydney 8 am.
Check in at The Marquet was 2 pm so we had to hit town, though we where very tired and hungry. We ended up in a pub

having irish breakfast with a beer, yes its true, hahaha, but it was a discount...

On the way back to the hotel we found Paddys market and 2 acrobats performing as a chinese dragon, some new year

tradition. They were jumping on the sticks.

After having a short nap, we went up having a swim in the pool on the terrace
Nice view over the city.

We ended the night on a really nice restaurant to celebrate Marias birthday

Left early for Christchurch, approx. 400 km.
The travel went really easy this time, with very beautyful views around us.
For a while it looked like the road was leading to Mount Cook

In the background Aoraki/Mount Cook, with its 3754 m the highest mountain in NZ.

After checking in to the most awesome hotel so far, but at the same time realise that it was newly built because of the big
earthquake last february, gave us mixed feelings.
It felt nervous all the time, should there be a new earthquake again?
We went to the airport to return the car, we had heard that the airport was not affected at all, but there had been some
damages over there as well.
Here is a photo from our room.

We took a cab down town, the driver told us there had been an earth quake 3 pm this morning, but a smaller one this time.
So it felt good that we decided for only a night in Christchurch.

The devastation after the earthquake a year a go is hard to grasp.
The entire city centre is closed. It looks like a warzone with empty streets, closed shops and debris everywhere.
Really scaring.

The planned paragliding activity was unfortunately cancelled due to heavy winds.
Instead we rented downhill bikes and spent half a day trying not to break our legs in the downhill slopes.
According to Maria this was more scary than jumping off a cliff 109 m above ground!!!
This was the last day in Queenstown, now heading for Christchurch.
